What to Do When Someone Dies?

The death of a loved one can be very unsettling and distressing, even if it was expected. Knowing what to do when someone dies can help ease further upset at this difficult time. The circumstances surrounding the death will affect the steps that you need to take. Our useful guide explains what to do and when.

The Death Was Expected

If the death was expected, the G.P will need to be notified as soon as possible. They will attend and verify the cause of death. As long as there are no mitigating circumstances, they should be able to issue the Medical Cause of Death certificate. At this stage, you can call us to notify us that our services are required. We will then transport your loved one to our chapel of rest.

Once you are in possession of the death certificate, you can arrange an appointment with the local Registry Office to register the death.

The Death Was Unexpected

If the death was unexpected you will need to call the ambulance services and police as soon as possible. The police will attend to establish whether the death occurred under suspicious circumstances. The coroner will be notified, and the deceased will be taken to the hospital mortuary.
